With the development of chemistry in the 18th century, cosmetics became more and more scientific. Antoine Laurent de Lavoisier, with his experimental and quantitative approach of chemical reactions, laid the foundations
of modern chemistry. These promoted the evolution of modern cosmetics. The industrial revolution had started. In addition to peddlers, merchants and shopkeepers, true entrepreneurs came up. Cosmetic workshops then became
true manufactures, resorting to machines that were operated by animals, water or steam.
