The cosmetic industry then soared and started implementing the principles of a scientific organization of labor with the separation of tasks. Engineers worked side by side with entrepreneurs. Engineers indeed originated studies on and elaboration of new products, ensuring their first fabrication and controlling the formulas themselves. The abundant research around aerosols and propelling gas prefigured their use in hairsprays. As the fabrication of a given formula differed according to the industrial equipment, engineers were the guarantors of the scale transposition and quality.
