 The 1889 Universal Exhibition consecrated the French cosmetic industry and marked the zenith of a movement that had been initiated one century earlier. For the occasion, Paris transformed itself. Through the discovery of new cultures, Paris enlightened the world, but the world in its turn enlightened Paris. The Belle Époque of cosmetics had started.
