The development of the cosmetic industry impacted a whole range of activities. Pots, bottles, cases, labels, ribbons, leaflets, envelopes of all kinds, cardboard packing, showcases, called on various industries that employed renowned artists for the creation of new models. The fortunes of some of the first perfumers became quite considerable, allowing a few major figures in the profession to act as sponsors. Such was the case for Jacques Rouché, Louis Toussaint Piver’s son-in-law, who headed and financially supported the Opéra de Paris from 1914 to 1940.

The toilet brush industry using ivory, bone, horn, indigenous and exotic wood (ebony), boar and badger bristles, also developed. It was almost exclusively located in the Oise department (Beauvais and its region), and in Paris for ivory-handled items. Combs, traditionally made in wood, horn, ivory or metal, were now made out of rubber or celluloid. The materials evolved as the chemistry of petroleum reshuffled the cards; it facilitated the democratization of toiletries, and largely improved the profitability of the industry.
